Maryland Farmhouse
Every Summer, I have the pleasure of spending time with family on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. One of my favorite pastimes is rolling the windows down and riding around in my car out in the country. I’ll often see things that I want to photograph. I’m especially interested in older farm structures and vehicles. As fast as things around us change, it won’t be long before these older subjects are gone.
I was driving down the road to Whitehaven, Maryland one evening when I came across this old farmhouse. I was initially more interested in the large Oak tree to the right (I like old Oaks). I passed the house and circled back around to get another look at it. It was about 8:00 PM and the sun would be setting soon. I decided to shoot the house using my Canon 5D and the 70-200mm lens. I composed the shot so the the dirt driveway and the power lines would lead the eye into the farmhouse. I shot 3 bracketed shots and combined them using Nik Software’s HDR Efex Pro. I finished the processing in Nik’s Color Efex Pro for greater contrast and detail.
I feel like each time I shoot something like this I’m capturing history. Without pictures, we would only be able to describe the “Good Ol’ Days”.
